Chatswood High School built upon its existing relationship with BlueFit to bring an exciting new upgrade to its campus through the Get Fit Give Back campaign. As the second-largest comprehensive high school in New South Wales—catering to 2,300 students—the school places a massive emphasis on holistic development. “It’s really about providing learning in the classroom, but as many extracurricular programs as possible for those students as well,” explains Sean Abernethy, Head Teacher of Student Excellence and Engagement. Having already partnered with BlueFit Lane Cove for sports carnivals and Year 7 swimming programs, joining the initiative was a natural next step.
Because every new BlueFit membership sends $100 directly to the nominated school or club, Chatswood High School was able to secure a seamless funding boost to directly enrich student life. The donation was immediately put to work to fit out the school’s dedicated sports studio, a hub designed for extracurricular activities and physical health programs. “To provide this opportunity of new programs and new facilities really has opened doors to those students, and without this funding, that wouldn't be possible,” Sean adds. “We really are grateful.”
Witnessing the immediate benefit to his students' wellbeing, Sean enthusiastically recommends the campaign to educational institutions and community groups alike. “The enrichment and programs that you can provide for community members... really will make a difference. We're very lucky to have received that funding, so I absolutely would promote it and recommend it to other organizations.”
