Interactive Group For Seniors

For a grassroots initiative like the Interactive Group For Seniors, joining the Get Fit Give Back campaign has provided a vital lifeline for local seniors. Founded by Marilyn Screen, the small, interactive community group offers a welcoming space for elderly residents in Lane Cove to connect over games, art, crafts, and meaningful social interaction. “Somebody came to the group through the Get Fit Give Back program,” Marilyn recalls, marking the beginning of a rewarding two-year partnership. “The fact that they support the community is just a blessing in disguise, especially for a very small organization like we are.”

The community-driven funding flows directly into sustaining the group's weekly operations without the administrative burden often tied to traditional fundraising. Rather than managing complex grant applications, the process relies on local members simply nominating the cause when they sign up at their local BlueFit facility. “The funds that we received will go back into keeping our equipment up to date and bringing in new equipment when and if we need it,” Marilyn explains. “Just general maintenance within the group to help all these elderly people out there.”

With two successful years under her belt, Marilyn highly encourages other small community groups to take part in the initiative. “I've found it has been very simple to get involved with, and yes, I would recommend it to anybody," she says. "This donation means that we're guaranteed a continuation in what we're doing, and that's supporting the senior community of Lane Cove.”
